The church was called the West End Evangelical Association, located at West State and Avon in Rockford, Il. A forty-member group voted to join the Methodist Episcopal Church and named it "Grace". Josiah Leonard (round stained-glass window) was the moving spirit of these meetings. They continued to meet at "Judd's Hall" until 1916 until they outgrew the location

Grace UMC built a new church at the corner of West State and Hinkley in Rockford, IL. At one time in the 1950's Grace as a 1,500-member church. The organ that we use today was installed at this church in 1916. The cornerstone of the church at West State and Hinkley says, "Erected for the Glory of God and the good of Humanity. 1891-1914

Grace UMC rented a store front location just off Riverside Boulevard in Rockford, IL while the new church on McFarland Road was under construction.

We are presently located at 3555 McFarland Road in Rockford. IL. The pipe organ from the West State and Hinkley Location was moved to the new church. The round-stained glass window that bears the "Josiah Leonard" name was moved from the West State and Hinkley location to the new, existing location. In 2005 the fellowship hall and additional Sunday School classrooms was added as well.
